"How much will a website cost?" is usually the first question we get, and the honest answer is that most quotes you'll receive in Chennai are priced on entirely different assumptions. One agency quotes ₹18,000 and another ₹2,00,000 for what sounds like the same brief. Below is what actually sits behind those numbers, so you can read any quote properly — including ours.
Short version: a simple brochure website in Chennai typically runs ₹25,000–₹60,000. A custom business website lands around ₹60,000–₹1,50,000. E-commerce and web applications start near ₹1,50,000 and rise with functionality. Anything materially cheaper is almost always a template with your logo dropped into it.
2026 price bands in Chennai
| Type of website | Typical range | Usual timeline |
|---|---|---|
| Brochure site (4–6 pages) | ₹25,000 – ₹60,000 | 2–4 weeks |
| Custom business website (8–15 pages) | ₹60,000 – ₹1,50,000 | 4–6 weeks |
| E-commerce store | ₹1,50,000 – ₹4,00,000 | 6–10 weeks |
| Web application / SaaS front-end | ₹3,00,000 upwards | 8 weeks+ |
These are the bands we see across the Chennai market, not a rate card. Every project we quote is priced individually after a discovery call.
What actually moves the price
1. Custom design vs. template
This is the single largest factor. A purchased theme costs a few thousand rupees and can be populated in days. A custom UX and UI design process means research, wireframes, and layouts drawn around your actual business — and it costs more because it is genuinely more work. Templates are not automatically wrong; they are wrong when your competitors are running the same one.
2. Number of unique layouts
Twenty pages that reuse four layouts is a much smaller job than eight pages that each need their own design. When comparing quotes, ask how many unique layouts are included, not how many pages.
3. Integrations
Payment gateways, CRM sync, booking systems, WhatsApp and enquiry routing, multi-language, inventory feeds — each is real engineering. Two e-commerce sites can differ by a factor of three purely on integration scope.
4. Content readiness
An underrated cost. If copy, product photography and brand assets are ready, the build moves quickly. If the agency has to write copy and source imagery, that is a separate workstream, and it's the most common cause of projects running past their delivery date.
5. Performance and SEO baseline
A site that loads fast, passes Core Web Vitals and ships with proper schema markup takes deliberate effort. It's also what determines whether the site ever gets found. We treat this as non-negotiable rather than an add-on line item.
Costs people forget to budget for
- Domain — roughly ₹800–₹1,500 per year.
- Hosting — ₹3,000–₹15,000 per year for most business sites; more for high-traffic or application workloads.
- SSL certificate — often free via the host, sometimes billed.
- Maintenance — security updates, backups, content edits and monitoring. Either budget for it or accept that the site will quietly decay.
- Content updates — someone has to keep it current. Decide upfront whether that's you or your agency.
How to compare two quotes fairly
Put both on the same footing before you look at the total:
- Is the design custom or a licensed theme?
- How many unique page layouts are included?
- Who writes the copy and sources the images?
- Is the site mobile-first, or "mobile responsive" as an afterthought?
- What SEO groundwork is included — schema, page speed, titles and meta descriptions?
- How many revision rounds, and what counts as a revision?
- Who owns the code and the domain when it's finished? (The answer should be you.)
- What happens after launch, and at what cost?
The cheapest quote is rarely the cheapest outcome. A ₹20,000 site that generates no enquiries costs more than a ₹90,000 site that generates five a week — the first one just fails more quietly.
What we do
DX4 Studio has been designing and building websites from Tambaram, Chennai since 2008, with 240+ projects shipped.
